On this tour you will see the unique and diverse ecosystems of the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest while living and learning from the local Kichwa Anangu community. Partake in this once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the ancient traditions and customs that make up the Kichwa Anangu community’s rich culture. Step into your own storybook as you explore this magical land that has been almost preserved in time and is home to a unique and exciting wilderness.
► DAY 01: Quito – El Coca -Napo Wildlife Center Details
The day will begin with departing from Quito. From Quito you will be flying to the jungle town of Coca, (which takes about 30-minutes). Once in Coca, your adventure will truly begin! Once you arrive, you will be taken to the Orellana port by members of our staff. Here you will be taking a 2-hour trip down the beautiful Napo River in a motorized canoe. Take in the aquatic birds that live around the river and the natural beauty of the forest until you reach your final destination, the Napo Wildlife Center (NWC).
Once guests arrive at the Napo Cultural Center, which is located in the heart of the Kichwa Anangu community, they will be greeted with a refreshing and tasty traditional drink and then shown to their cabins, which boast incredible views of the lush gardens and wilderness surrounding the lodge.
Later in the afternoon, guests have the option to join staff members on a short walk to the the stunning beaches and islands of the Napo riverbank to enjoy a beautiful sunset. After enjoying the sunset, guests will return to the lodge to enjoy a delectable traditional Ecuadorian dinner at the restaurant on site. You are also welcome to watch the chefs prepare these traditional meals, as the entire kitchen is open to guests.
► DAY 02: Community encounter & Canopy Tower Details
(OPTIONAL ACTIVITY) Early risers can join us in waking up at 4:30 am, for the opportunity to experience and participate in one the most revered and ancient customs of the Kichwa Anangu community. Before the sun rises, guests will help make the invigorating wayusa tea, and will then join in on the ritual where the community listens to Kichwa songs while peacefully meditating on life.
Breakfast today will be buffet-style at the lodge restaurant and will be followed with a visit to the Canopy Observation Tower, where you can experience a rare look at jungle life atop the trees.
The Canopy Tower is a whopping 36 meters tall and is located deep in the forest about a 30-minute walk from the lodge. It truly is a place and a view like no other! You will be able to see the many colorful birds that call the forest home up close. Enjoy the sight of tanagers, toucans, macaws, parrots, and flycatchers. You can also find the various monkey species, such as Spider Monkeys and Howler Monkeys, that can be found swinging around and feeding on the fruits and seeds found in the trees.
After the exciting visit to the Canopy tower, guests will return to the NAPO WILDLIFE CENTER for a delicious, authentic Ecuadorian lunch at the lodge’s restaurant. While enjoying lunch, guests can see a wonderful 360° view of Anangu Lake. After lunch, there is some scheduled free time, where you can relax while doing any of the activities offered at the NWC including: taking a nap on the hammocks, reading a book, or birdwatching from the dining room observation tower.
After this free time to explore the relaxing lodge activities, adventurers will enjoy hiking through the breathtaking terra firme forest and exploring the complex ecosystem that calls the Amazonian Rainforest in Ecuador home. See the exotic plant life including vines, orchids, bromeliad, and beautiful ancient trees. Be on the lookout for the many species of animals that live in the forest such as insects, mammals, birds, and monkeys. After the hike, enjoy a paddle-canoe ride on the nearby creeks to discover the aquatic wildlife found in the rainforest. Dinner at the lodge’s restaurant that night will take place at about 7:30pm.
► DAY 03: Parrot clay licks & Interpretative Center Details
Today you will wake up early for the opportunity to visit the parrot clay licks. These clay licks offer some of the most stunning views in the Amazon. The day will begin by with a paddle-canoe trip downstream on the Anangu creek to reach the Kichwa Anangu community. Once reaching the community, we will take a 10-minute ride on a motorized canoe to the parrot clay licks. Here, you will be able to see hundreds of beautiful, colorful birds gathering to lick the clay formations to ingest the minerals found in the soil, which help them digest the fruits and seeds they eat.
Then, we will return to the Kichwa Anangu community’s reception area and take a short walk to another clay lick where you can watch hundreds of parakeets sitting in the trees waiting for the perfect time to lick the clay formations to ingest the minerals and salt found in the soil.
Afterwards, we will return to the reception area for Lunch, and, we will then visit the Interpretative Center where the women of the community will teach you about their customs and traditions, while you watch and enjoy the community’s rituals and dances.
Later in the day, we’ll return to the Napo Wildlife Center for dinner and then guests will have time to rest for the adventures we will go on the next day.
► DAY 04: Tiputini trail & Free afternoon Details
Nature lovers will enjoy this morning’s outing hiking along the Tiputini trail to explore the wildlife of the terra-firme and swamp forests. Some animals you will want to be on the lookout for include monkeys, two and three toed sloths, snakes, and squirrels. Those more interested in plant life will be able to take in the exotic plants and trees that are native to this Tropical forest.
After, we’ll return to the NWC for lunch and free time to rest up for the afternoon’s activities. After taking some time to recharge, we’ll paddle around the nearby creeks to more deeply explore the waters of the Amazonian Rainforest and to experience the unique wildlife found there.
Finally, it’s back to the NWC lodge for dinner. After dinner, staff members will set up a video that describes in detail the Napo Wildlife Center and the native Kichwa Anangu community.
► DAY 05: Departure Details
The day will begin with an early breakfast. After, we will take a motorized canoe back to Coca. This last excursion traveling upstream the Napo River, will allow you one final look at the unique wildlife that can be seen in the flora and fauna of the Amazon.
