General Information

Highlight on Julia´s farm and family
Julia was a former teacher. She is now taking care of a 3 hectares plantation of coffee, bananas, mangos, avocados, exotic fruits and tea. She is also involved in the development of the district Huayopata on the social and educational topics. You will spend a lovely time with her cheerful family.

Highlight on Rosa´s cacao plantantion
At Rosa´s cacao plantantion in Maranura you will learn all the secrets of Theobroma cacao (also known as the ¨food of the gods¨). With her you will prepare a delicious hot chocolate from died beans from her plantation. Rosa has 2 types of cacoa trees in her plantantion: the chuncho and the hybrido.

Highlight on Alejandro´s farm and family
At Alejandro´s farm you will enjoy the great view of the Salkantay mountain. Far from the road you will take your time to live in harmony with the nature.

Altitude: from 1700 meters to 2000 meters
Size: approx. 3 hectares
Plantation: Coffee, bananas, exotic fruits, peanuts, yucca, guinea pigs…

Highlight on the walk to the thermal waters
The 3 hours walk from Alejandro´s farm to Santa Teresa goes through wonderful landscapes. You will cross the river twice, on a bridge or zip line. When you arrive at the thermal waters you will enjoy a great time in the middle of the nature.

Highlight on Huayna Picchu
You can choose to climb the Huayna Picchu Mountain. It is a 30 min to 1 hour walk up to reach the top. This walk is quite tough but as soon as you are on the top you forget all the difficulties you had reaching it. If you have no physical problem don´t hesitate to climb Huayna Picchu.

Day by day

Day 1: Cusco-Huayopata
Cacao | Peru

Early in the morning you are leaving with public transportation or private transportation from the bus terminal or your hotel to Huayopata where you will find Julia´s farm. Here you will be welcomed with a fresh fruit juice and a lunch with traditional food from the region. In the afternoon you are going to do one of the activities in Julia´s farm. Depending on the season you will:

  • Visit the tea plantation and factory
  • Visit the coffee plantation and learn more about the coffee process
  • Discover and taste the exotic fruits of the season

In the evening you have a moment with Julia´s farm and if you would like to help cooking, feel free to ask Julia. Around 06:00 pm dinner will be served. Afterwards with Jose and Julia, you will learn how to peel, roast and grind coffee. Prepare the coffee you will enjoy the next morning for breakfast. You spend the night at Julia´s farm in rooms with private bathroom and hot water.

Day 2: Huayopata- Maranura-Santa Maria
Cacao

In the morning you have breakfast at Julia´s farm with great selfmade coffee. You continue your trip to Maranura to Rosa´s farm. Activities you can do with Rosa:

  • Discovering the cacao tree and its fruits
  • Learning about harvest, fermentation and drying of cacao beans
  • Roasting and grinding cacao beans from the farm
  • Preparing a hot chocolate with your freshly ground cacao

Afterwards you will be transported to Santa Maria where you will have lunch (Menu of the day). Then you will be transported to Santa Rosa and from here you will hike a part of the Inka trail Jungle (2h30) to Alejandro´s farm. Here you will be welcomed with fresh juice from the farm. Depending on the season at Alejandro´s farm you will:

  • Learn more about faire trade and high altitude organic coffee
  • Pick coffee from the tree
  • Process coffee (Shelling, fermentation, washing, sorting, drying)
  • Taste coffee
  • Discover the coca plant
  • Learn how guinea pigs are raised

In the evening you have dinner with Alejandro´s family. You will spend the night at Alejandro´s farm in rooms with private bathroom and hot water.

Day 3: Machu Picchu

You can choose for two different options:

Option 1 – Back to Cusco
In the morning you have breakfast at Alejandro´s farm with fresh coffee from the farm. Afterwards you have some free time to spend. Then you have a 30 minute walk from Alejandro´s farm to the road. From there you will be transported to Santa Maria where you can enjoy a lunch (Menu of the day). After lunch you have a transport to Cusco to the bus terminal and from there you take the taxi to your hotel.

Option 2 – Let´s visit Machu Picchu!
In the morning you can enjoy breakfast at Alejandro´s farm with fresh coffee from the farm. Afterwards you are going to make a walk (3 hours) from Alejandro´s farm to the thermal waters by the Vilcanota river. Here you have time to swim and enjoy the thermal waters. From here you continue walking to Santa Teresa where you will have lunch (Menu of the day). After lunch you will be transported to Hidroelectrica.Here you can either walk (2h30) or take the train. Check in in your hotel. (standard accommodation with private bathroom and hot water) .

Day 4: Machu Picchu

Early in the morning you can enjoy breakfast. At 06:00 am you are going with the first bus up to the Machu Picchu and you will have a guided tour of approximately 3 hours. Afterwards you can visit the misterious city yourself. You can choose to climb the Huayna Picchu (extra charge and reservations need to be done in advance) at 07:00 am or 10:00 am.

In the afternoon you go back by bus to Aguas Calientes where you will have a lunch (not included). At 03:00pm you have a transportation from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo. Sometimes this train is not available and we´ll have to charge you an extra fee for other trains on other times. Upon arirval in Ollantaytambo train station you will go by public transportation to the bus terminal of Cusco where you will take a taxi to your hotel.
