Emerging from the depths of winter, the archipelago reveals its wildest side in the first days of spring. Nature has closed the previous chapter and opened a new one, unfolding a fresh, snow-covered page before us. We are the pioneers, the first to discover this new story that the environment is beginning to tell.
Although this adventure is shorter than usual, we seize every moment to showcase the best the season has to offer, as our nimble expedition vessel navigates through the ice. With a landscape blanketed in snow, surrounded by fracturing sea ice, and bathed in a soft, magical light, Svalbard in spring embodies new beginnings and truly breathtaking scenery.
Set off from Longyearbyen precisely at 4 pm.
Sail past the remarkably picturesque Fuglefjella (Bird's Mountain) plateau formation, a breathtaking illustration of a mountainous landscape, as you leave Longyearbyen.
Situated at Isfjorden's mouth, Alkhornet is where the landscape changes dramatically from flat plains to edge-dominated, rugged mountainous terrain.
Poolepynten, a headland on Prins Karls Forland, serves as the site of a thriving walrus colony and a solemn burial ground.
The 1937-built Sallyhamna hut stands as a historical monument because it contains numerous artifacts from the 1600s whaling period.
The next destination will take us to Gravnesodden in Magdalenefjorden where you will find archaeological evidence of a once-thriving cultural civilization.
Make a stop at Camp Zion, a quaint old trapper's hut, before embarking on a Zodiac cruise expedition to the Lilliehook glacier, where you'll witness majestic calved ice up close.
Our amazing journey will conclude when we sail back to Isfjorden and Longyearbyen for our final destination.
