The Aqua Lares expedition yacht takes travelers on an exceptional Arctic journey which unites Tromsø's cultural entrance with Svalbard's wild nature in a compact expedition yacht. The trip operates through a flexible design which adjusts to ice conditions and wildlife presence and weather patterns to enable travelers to encounter polar bears and whales and seabird colonies and glaciers and distant historical locations. The expedition sails across fjords and pack ice and remote Arctic islands to provide travelers with an in-depth experience of the remaining unspoiled wilderness which combines animal exploration with polar historical sites and stunning natural landscapes. Travel Tips Dress in moisture-wicking layers with insulated outerwear suitable for polar conditions. Bring binoculars and a camera with extra batteries, as cold temperatures drain power quickly. Waterproof boots and gloves are essential for shore landings and zodiac excursions. Seas can vary, so consider motion sickness precautions. Pack a dry bag for electronics during tender excursions. Keep expectations flexible, the changing Arctic environment often creates unexpected highlights. Weather Preparedness Conditions can shift rapidly from calm sunshine to wind, snow, or fog, even in summer. Temperatures generally range from near freezing to cool single digits Celsius, with colder wind chill on deck and near glaciers. Waterproof outer layers, thermal base layers, insulated hats, and neck protection are strongly recommended. Layering is key for comfort throughout the voyage. Fitness Requirements This expedition is suitable for travelers with moderate mobility and a spirit of adventure. Guests should be comfortable: Boarding and disembarking tenders or zodiac-style craft Walking on uneven rocky or tundra terrain Participating in moderate guided shore walks Standing for periods during wildlife viewing Some landings may involve slippery or rugged surfaces, so balance and stability are important.

13 Day Artic Itinerary

Day 1: Embarkation - Tromsø

The start of your expedition takes place in Tromsø which people call the Paris of the North because it sits far above the Arctic Circle. After boarding Aqua Lares, settle into your cabin and meet the expedition team while the vessel begins its journey northward. The day offers an introduction to life aboard a luxury expedition ship, with opportunities to attend briefings from naturalist guides and enjoy panoramic views as civilization fades into Arctic wilderness. The northern fjords show the beginning of our journey because we expect to have an exciting experience under the Midnight Sun and Arctic light which creates an unforgettable welcome to the high north.
Meals Included: Lunch / Dinner

Day 2: Gjesvær & Skarsvåg (Nordkapp)

The current day centers its attention on the bird species which inhabit the Arctic and the natural habitats which exist along the European coastline. The short journey to Gjesværstappan leads visitors to witness Europe's largest seabird colony which hosts massive numbers of puffins and gannets and kittiwakes. The guided tour leaders share their knowledge about bird nesting patterns and they explain how Arctic ecosystems maintain their delicate balance. The afternoon journey takes you to Skarsvåg which exists as one of the most northern human settlements in the world while its vibrant residential buildings rise above the vast tundra terrain. Explore this remote village, observe wandering reindeer, and begin appreciating the resilient human and animal life adapted to extreme northern environments.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 3: Rantalabukta (Reinøya)

Step ashore on the secluded island of Reinøya, once connected to Sami reindeer herding traditions. The guided tours of raised beaches show visitors the remarkable geological structures which formed through past glacial movements and coastline transformations. The naturalist guides lead hikers through trails which teach them about Arctic plant species and animal migration routes and the historical traditions of Sami people. The isolated location of Reinøya creates a peaceful environment which stands in contrast to the intense seabird colonies we saw before while allowing us to experience the more delicate Arctic nature and its natural cycles.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 4: Bear Island

The unvisited Bear Island stretches across distant territory to provide a rugged cliff environment which supports thriving wildlife populations. The excursions of today take visitors to dramatic seabird colonies which puffins and guillemots and fulmars call home on steep rock cliffs. The visitors experience tender explorations which bring them to cliffs that display active ecosystems while naturalists explain the distinctive ecological value of the island. The island stands as a remote location which creates an authentic exploration experience because visitors can take pictures and watch animals and discover facts about this important Arctic station which explorers have admired throughout history.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 5: Samarinvågen

Explore Samarinvågen, where a calving glacier fills the bay with drifting ice and creates ideal habitat for marine life. The gentle movements of tender excursions flow through the ice floes which serve as resting spots for bearded seals while little auks and king eiders bring life to the overhead skies. Guides assist visitors to find hidden belugas which swim through the Arctic Ocean during their migration. The day presents a study of moving ice masses that support wildlife which forms the main ecological system in Svalbard. The floating ice together with glacial soundscapes create a peaceful environment which stands as the most unforgettable part of the expedition.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 6: Longyearbyen & Alkehornet

The ship enters Longyearbyen for a brief stop before it starts its next voyage segment. The expedition schedule allows passengers to relax on board while they can experience the yacht's social areas and follow the expedition's daily time schedule. The afternoon calls for travelers to explore Alkehornet which stands as a towering bird cliff that serves as a home for guillemots and kittiwakes during their nesting season. The tundra region which lies beneath the cliffs shows animals like reindeer and Arctic foxes during their grazing activities. The day provides a complete experience through its combination of relaxation and wildlife encounters and geological wonders which create a fulfilling experience.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 7: Gravneset & Smeerenburg

The current day brings together the historical development of Arctic regions with their distant natural environments. At Gravneset visitors can explore a spooky old whaling cemetery which shows the time when explorers first ventured into polar regions. The following stop leads to Smeerenburg Fjord together with Sorgattet which served as the operational base for Dutch whaling activities. The Arctic shore landings provide visitors with two main attractions because they can observe wildlife while learning about historical events which took place in the frozen Arctic wilderness. The day reveals how human activities in Svalbard's northern territory have transformed the natural environment into a historical record of development.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 8: Pack Ice

Journey into drifting pack ice, one of the Arctic’s most iconic environments. The ship moves northward through floating ice fields while passengers get their best chance to observe wildlife. Tender excursions search for polar bears, seals, and ivory gulls in one of Earth’s most remote habitats. The shifting ice creates an ever-changing landscape, emphasizing the expedition’s adaptive spirit. The Arctic waters become an adventurous polar plunge experience which creates an exciting day that people will remember forever.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 9A: Alkefjellet & Bråsvellbreen

Begin at Alkefjellet’s basalt cliffs, home to immense colonies of Brünnich’s guillemots. The massive bird population along with the striking geological features establish this location as one of Svalbard's most famous wildlife areas. The northern hemisphere contains Bråsvellbreen which functions as one of its longest glacier fronts during your later sail. The giant ice wall produces an amazing view because its seasonal waterfalls produce flowing water which creates sparkling reflections in the sunlight. The path demonstrates the magnificent ice formations together with the plentiful wildlife which inhabits the Arctic region.
Meals Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 9B: Liefdefjorden & Raudfjord

This alternative path leads through magnificent fjords which feature sharp mountain ridges and flowing glaciers that reach into the ocean.
