How the Voting Process Works

Each year, for the World's Best Awards survey, readers are invited to share their travel experiences from around the globe and provide feedback on top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. In the 2024 survey, over 186,000 readers participated, casting a total of more than 700,000 votes for over 8,700 properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Cities were evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Sights/landmarks
  • Culture
  • Food
  • Friendliness
  • Shopping
  • Value

For each characteristic, respondents rated their experiences as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores represent the averages of these responses.
