► DAY 01: Quito – El Coca -Napo Wildlife Center Details
The first day of this tour will begin with a departure from Quito, on a 30-minute flight over the Andes mountains, to Coca. You will reach Coca mid-morning, and a 5 min transfer ride will be taken to the “La Mision” Port. Here you will board a comfortable motorboat with a canopy cover. Once on the boat, we will begin our 2-hour canoe ride along the Napo River. A box lunch and refreshments (including coffee) will be provided during this ride.
From the boat, you can spot the native animals including birds like herons and kingfishers. After arriving at the Napo Wildlife Center (NWC), we will take a short restroom break and then take a peaceful and beautiful 2-hour paddle canoe ride to the Napo Wildlife Center. The creek you will be traveling down allows for spectacular views as you are surrounded by the tall trees of the rainforest.
Today will provide opportunities to see monkeys as well as majestic birds like toucans, parrots, and macaws. We will arrive at Napo Wildlife Center in the late afternoon. Soak in the awe-inspiring view of the Añangu Lake, while enjoying a welcome refreshment. Afterwards all guests will hear a briefing from the local manager.
► DAY 02: Kichwa Community Details
Today we will wake up early to make the 1-hour trek to the most easily accessible parrot clay licks in Ecuador. Guests will reach the site between 7:30 to 8:30 am right before parrot activity begins for the day. We will be able to see 11 different species of parrots, parakeets, and macaws at this clay lick.
Later, guests will take a forest trail hike to visit the Kichwa Community of Añangu and spend time with a local family to assist with their daily activities.
Then we will return back to the creek and take another 30-minute hike through the Terra Firme Forest to reach a second clay lick where, if the weather cooperates, we will be able to see some different species of parrots, parakeets, and macaws.
After, we will return to the Napo Cultural Center for a shared lunch with the members of the kichwa community. Guests will then be taken by boat back to the lodge. We will arrive back at the lodge in the late afternoon and will then enjoy a delicious dinner.
► Day 03: Canopy tower & Trek Details
Today will begin with an early breakfast, after which we will leave the lodge and make our way to a 36m. tall canopy tower to experience the rainforest in an entirely new way. This is the best way to see the world that exists high above the forest floor.
We will be exploring from Napo Wildlife Center’s second tower, which is located a 30-minute walk away from the lodge deep in the terra firme forest. As you climb up the 12-floor tower, you will be able to see the forest from many different levels. Finally, guests will emerge on top of an enormous Ceiba tree.
This immersive experience includes flocks of colorful tanagers that fly through the canopy and bright Blue-and yellow Macaws soaring past. In nearby trees you can watch Spider Monkeys search for fruit and experience two species of large toucans making their early morning and afternoon calls. The entire life and ecosystem of the forest canopy will open up right before your eyes. Birds that cannot be seen when you are exploring from the forest floor will suddenly be right next to you, and seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are being watched.
Since this is an up close and personal look at the life high up in the forest’s trees, the canopy tower opens up a whole new exciting world for guests to explore Lunch will be served back at the lodge. Hikers will really enjoy our afternoon trek through a terra firme trail, in the primary forest, which allows us to explore deep inside the forest interior. This trail opens up the possibility of finding lizards, colorful manakins, or even the unique and native Golden mantle tamarin monkeys. Afterwards, take time to discover the lake and many creeks in a dugout canoe, and don’t forget to be on the lookout for a Giant otter family that you may run into on the way.
► DAY 04: Departure Details
