Skiing at the end of the World - Cerro Castor

Cerro Castor is located 26 km. from the city of Ushuaia, Argentina; on Route No. 3, Km. 26. It is easily accessible since the road is completely paved.

Being the southernmost ski center on the planet and at the southernmost edge of Patagonia, it has characteristics that make it unique and different. Skiing in Cerro Castor means enjoying the best quality of snow, due to the orientation of the mountain (southern slope) and its extreme location (parallel 54°, similar to Moscow in the northern hemisphere).

In winter, the most common and safest way to get to the city of Ushuaia is by air. You can reach this paradisiacal place in just 3 hours. 20 minutes, through daily flights from Buenos Aires. In turn, you can also fly from Brazil through charter flights.

The complex is located 26 km from the international airport of Ushuaia, the capital of Tierra del Fuego, allowing easy access to a unique place in a few minutes.

Cerro Castor is the product of a family project that came to fruition on July 9, 1999, when it first opened its doors to the public.

Many changes have occurred throughout these years of work. Initially, Cerro Castor had only 3 quad chair lifts, 1 Tele ski, 15 slopes, and a building at the base. Today its infrastructure is different and it has grown a lot but it maintains the essence that characterized it from the beginning.

This mountain today has lifts for all levels of skiing, an exclusive cabin complex at the base, and 8 gastronomic points that allow you to appreciate the Fuegian landscape from different places, but above all, it maintains that quality of snow that has always characterized her.

Cerro Castor

  • It concentrates the best quality of snow due to its geographical position. Cerro Castor is located on a southern slope and maintains average temperatures between -5 and 5 degrees.
  • Due to its characteristics and its snow quality, it is the ski center with the largest number of international teams training throughout the season. About 25 teams train at Cerro Castor each year, including regional clubs, Mogul teams, and World Cup participating countries such as France, Italy, Switzerland, and more.
  • Cerro Castor is a family business. It is operated by Gastón Bégué (President and Operations Director), former runner, Argentine champion, and representative of Argentina in 2 Olympics. He studied in France related the comprehensive management of ski resorts.
  • Cerro Castor has an exclusive design that is replicated in each of its buildings and an infrastructure similar to that of the main winter resorts in Europe.
  • It has an Artificial Snow Network (28 technoalpine cannons – the largest in South America) that covers widely from intermediate to the base, guaranteeing a large amount of snow throughout the season.
  • It has new and state-of-the-art machinery; complying with the pertinent maintenance before and after each season, carried out by expert personnel, and Cerro Castor staff.
  • It has the largest Snowpark in South America.
  • Castor Ski Lodge: it is a complex of 15 cabins strategically located in the middle of a centennial lenga forest, coexisting in harmony with nature and offering the best views of the forest and the mountains.
  • It has 8 gastronomic points for every taste of the visitor: Morada del Aguila, Ona House, Snowbar, 480, Terrazas del Castor, La Barra, Viejo Castor and Alpino Sports Bar.

Cerro Castor is the ideal extension before or after a Patagonia Tour or an Antarctica expedition cruise.
