11 Day Antarctica Itinerary

Day 1: Ushuaia

As the capital of Tierra del Fuego province in Argentina, Ushuaia is regarded as the gateway to the Antarctic and the South Pole. Known locally as “El fin del mundo,” this city is nestled at the world’s edge, surrounded by mountains and fertile plains that serve as a sanctuary for wildlife. With its unique location where the Andes meet the sea, Ushuaia stands as one of the most intriguing destinations on Earth, evoking the allure of remote and unreachable places.

Day 2 & 3: Drake Passage

Use the time spent crossing the Drake Passage to get acquainted with your ship and learn about the Antarctic region. The Expedition Leader will explain the rules for landings and provide information about the zodiac excursions. Educational talks on Antarctic history and wildlife will enhance your understanding of this enchanting region. On board, you’ll have opportunities to spot albatrosses, cape petrels, and other seabirds while enjoying the exceptional sailing experience.

Day 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8: Antarctic Peninsula

Experience the enchantment of an unparalleled destination. The Antarctic Peninsula continues to captivate visitors with its unforgettable beauty. During your journey through this icy realm, you’ll encounter a stunning landscape in shades of blue and white, populated by remarkable wildlife. You may see penguins, humpback whales, seals, giant petrels, elephant seals, fur seals, Antarctic minke whales, and orcas. Depending on your itinerary, you might have the chance to observe these creatures in their extreme habitat.

Each day, depending on ice conditions, the Captain and Expedition Leader will offer zodiac excursions or landings to explore the Antarctic Peninsula’s diverse features, including glaciers, ice floes, tabletop icebergs, mountain peaks, volcanic beaches, research stations, charming bays, and remnants of the whaling industry. You’ll follow in the footsteps of early Antarctic explorers like Jean-Baptiste Charcot, Adrien de Gerlache, and Sir Ernest Shackleton.

Day 9 & 10: Drake Passage

The Drake Passage, notorious for its challenging conditions, lies between Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands. This is the shortest route connecting Antarctica to South America and is known for its rough waters. As the convergence zone of cold polar currents and warmer equatorial waters, the Drake Passage is home to diverse marine life. Keep an eye out for albatrosses and Cape petrels gliding gracefully around your ship.
