The sun won't set during our entire stay in Svalbard.
Enjoy Longyearbyen in the morning after breakfast. Enjoy the view of the ice-covered fjords, glaciated mountains and historic coal mining town. You can shop for last-minute items such as winter gear or souvenirs. Remember, your parka will be waiting for you to take home and that waterproof boots can also be borrowed on the ship. Longyearbyen has a variety of quick, easy meals for lunch including some of the northest pizzas and kebabs.
You will then be transported to a deluxe expedition ship. Explore the spacious ship and settle into your suite. This will be the home for your extraordinary journey. Your expedition team will provide you with informative introductions and briefings after we get underway. Step out on the decks after the first delicious dinner to enjoy the beautiful scenery and 24-hour daylight while we travel through Isfjorden's wildlife-rich waters.
This voyage aims to circumnavigate the Svalbard Archipelago. The goal of this voyage is to circumnavigate the Svalbard archipelago, including the famous island of Kvitoya. We hope to see the High Arctic in all its glory.
Spitsbergen's pristine landscape is well protected in a network of national parks. The first park we will visit is Northwest Spitsbergen National Park. It is considered the crown jewel among Svalbard’s natural wonders. The area has deep fjords, serrated mountains and huge tidewater glaciers that calve icebergs in turquoise water. Millions of murres and guillemots are swarming the skies, and their eggs are hatching in countless colonies on islands, mountainside and sea cliffs. It is also possible to see marine mammals such as belugas, various Arctic Seals, and other species.
Signehamna Bay, Kongsbreen Glacier (Kings Glacier) and other enchanting places are found in this incredibly beautiful region. Ny Alesund is a rare human settlement along the route. It was formerly a mining town, an airship base and now consists of an international group of Arctic researchers. It is the most northern settlement in the world, with a post office, gift shop, and museum.
Southeast Svalbard Nature Reserve contains hundreds of uninhabited, pristine islands. The largest population of Svalbard endemic reindeer in the world lives on the islands Edgeoya & Barentsoya. These valleys also provide important nesting areas for birds that lay their eggs on the ground, such as geese and eiders. Arctic foxes scour the landscape in search of food to feed their cubs who have just emerged from their dens. Walruses, which rest in great numbers along gently sloped beaches, feed on murky shallow waters. Historic sites on the islands offer a glimpse into the trapping and hunter's era.
South Spitsbergen National Park covers a large area with varying landscapes. These include polar deserts as well as impassable mountain ranges. Hornsund is the park's centerpiece, an idyllic fjord with a plethora of mighty glaciers that cascade down from mountain peaks into icy bays. This park includes Bellsund's southern shores, where you can find the remnants of historic whaling operations, such as wooden boats, log cabins, and thousands of bones of whales. There is a good chance of seeing wildlife in the entire park. Wildflowers are at their best during this period.
This ambitious, in-depth Svalbard expedition cruise offers a unique opportunity to see the many faces of the Arctic. Each day brings something exciting and new. The Arctic is a place of incredible wildlife and scenery. We won't miss any opportunity to see it.
