The scenery of the Lake General Carrera is of exceptional beauty. Chile´s biggest lake, it is surrounded by impressive mountains and a sparse population of locals living the simple life.
Tourism to this little town-known and wonderful area is just starting.
Upon arrival, your guide will pick you up and take you via the scenic Carretera Austral (southern highway) to Lake General Carrera. It is a 5hrs drive along a beautiful and changing landscape of rivers, mountains, volcanoes, lakes and valleys.
On our way we will pass by the small village of Cerro Castillo. Here you can view the throat of River Ibañez. Carved by the thaws of the Hudson Stream and numerous tributaries, it’s an enormous flow which empties at the northeast extreme of the lake.
The Lake is the largest lake of Chile and the second largest in South America, covering an area of 97.512 square kilometers. It is located on the border, partly in Argentina. Its waters are a turquoise color which constantly alters with the movement of the sun and clouds. The next three nights you will stay at the Mallin Colorado Cottages, located on the shores of the lake with beautiful views.
Stroll in our boat along General Carrera Lake’s Puerto Tranquillo sector, where we visit the famous rocky formation called Marbel Cathedral. Our exploration continues 50km by car towards Bahia Exploratores ( Explorers’ Bay ) through a narrow valley with snowcapped mountains.
A one-hour hike takes us to an outlook point of Glacier Exploratory, a glacier that directly descends from the northern ice-field. With 4.000 m, it is the highest in Patagonia.
Transfer to the airport at Balmaceda for the departure of your flight.
