Expeditions and explorers

Discover the unique experiences that make expedition cruises extraordinary and find out if you’re the ideal traveler for them

Typical day on an expedition

Expeditions start in Punta Arenas. Guests are picked up from the airport. Just like on earlier trips, guests have their briefing at Explorer House. The first night is a welcome dinner. On the following day, the travelers start their journey to Antarctica and land at King George Island. Here they take a zodiac cruise to get to the expedition ship, then everyday starts early and is filled with exploration activities. Travellers will enjoy two landings each day where they can view wildlife and explore the landscapes.

The Ideal Traveler for an Antarctic Expedition

If you’re someone who loves pristine landscapes, enjoys wildlife observation, and prefers low-impact activities, this is the perfect journey for you. Ximena tells us that travel trends have evolved; travelers no longer travel alone, but more and more families are visiting the white continent to connect with nature in a meaningful way.

The Best season to visit Antarctica, and wildlife

Ximena mentioned that the best time to visit Antarctica would be from late November to the beginning of March. This is the time of year with the most active experience; because the most wildlife are active in their natural habitat.

Penguins will be hatching eggs in December. Their chicks will be fledging and exploring by January.

It is also working-season for swimming whales, seals too. Visitors will get to see lots of different species of birds as they thrive in the sunshine all day.

An overall scene for wildlife is lively with so much to see at this time of year. Visitors who enjoy nature, exploration and adventure will find this ideal.

Why should you explore Antarctica on an expedition cruise?

Antarctica is a pristine wilderness that everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime.

Exclusive experience aboard a boutique cruise

Ximena shared with us that in Antarctica there is a guideline stating that no landing should involve more than 100 people. Therefore, on small ships, everyone goes ashore together, giving passengers more time to fully enjoy these unique experiences.

The favorite moment in Antarctica

Ximena told us that her favorite moment in Antarctica, one she remembers with great joy, was kayaking among the ice for the first time, feeling the deep silence, and having close encounters with whales.

“This was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life,” she said.

The Favorite Place in Antarctica

Antarctica is a continent of incredible landscapes that invite you to disconnect completely. For Ximena, every island has its own unique charm. On the trails, you can often see penguins passing just a few feet away. And while sailing among the islands, passengers can take part in the Polar Plunge, a thrilling adrenaline jump into the icy Antarctic waters.

All the places in Antarctica hold special treasures for an explorer that wants to experience this pristine ecosystem.
