Kontiki's Philosophy of Conscious Travel Along Coastal Ecuador

Conscious Travel is a fundamental principle located at the core of Kontiki Expedition’s philosophy. We have designed slow-paced meaningful experiences that allow our guests to have a deeper understanding of local people and places, while protecting the environment and giving back to rural communities. 

Kontiki Expeditions collaborates with local communities by implementing social programs which include building basic infrastucture such as schools, nurseries and health centers; training and technical education in careers relevant to the community’s needs; and, opening soccer schools for children and teens with the sponsorship of Fundación Real Madrid. 

In terms of environmental care, we exclude the usage of single-use plastic, instead we have set-up water refill stations onboard; we have opted for chemical-free cleaning supplies; have established strict waste management and recycling protocols; and, have an ambitious plan to offset our carbon footprint by 2023. 

The wellbeing of our team members is an important part of our sustainability policies. We foster gender equality and ongoing training of our team, promoting personal and professional development in a stimulating and respectful work environment.
