Travel always comes with costs, but some destinations make your dollar stretch further, turning dream trips into more affordable realities.

For example, Argentina has become an excellent value for travelers, with the dollar appreciating by over 182% against the Argentine peso in the past year, according to a recent study by NetVoucherCodes. Known for its vibrant cities, outstanding wine, and world-class skiing, Argentina offers travelers a highly favorable exchange rate. Currently, $1 is worth approximately 998 Argentine pesos.

Egypt is another destination where the dollar remains strong, thanks to a decline in the Egyptian pound earlier this year due to rising interest rates. Over the past year, the U.S. dollar has gained 58.43% against the Egyptian pound, now trading at about 49 Egyptian pounds to the dollar.

Other popular travel spots also show a stronger dollar, including Mexico, where the dollar has risen nearly 13% against the peso, and Turkey, where it has increased by more than 21% against the lira. At present, $1 equals approximately 20 Mexican pesos and 34 Turkish lira.

On the other hand, some countries have become more expensive for U.S. travelers as their currencies have strengthened. For example, in Thailand, the Thai baht has appreciated by 6.21% against the dollar, especially through October. Similarly, the British pound has gained 5.55% against the dollar over the past year, making trips to the United Kingdom pricier. As of now, $1 is equivalent to about 34 Thai baht, and 1 British pound equals $1.26.

Despite these fluctuations, there are still ways to save. Rebecca Bebbington, a personal finance expert at NetVoucherCodes, advises travelers to watch out for potential card fees. "Before making any purchases, check for surcharges that merchants may apply to card payments without notice," she suggests. "Knowing this can help you decide whether to use cash or card and manage your budget effectively, avoiding unnecessary expenses."

The study by NetVoucherCodes, a company focused on affordable online shopping, examined changes in currency valuations by comparing the U.S. dollar's exchange rates against global currencies over one, three, and five years, using data from Currency API.
