The Decentralized Directorate of Culture in Cusco has announced a new policy allowing advance in-person ticket sales for Machu Picchu. Starting immediately, visitors can purchase tickets at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Cultural Center for up to three days in advance, a significant change designed to accommodate the growing number of tourists at this UNESCO World Heritage site.
This new measure comes in response to a marked increase in visitor traffic to the Inca citadel. Currently, 1,000 daily tickets will be sold in-person, aimed at tourists who have been unable to secure one of the 3,500 tickets available through online platforms. The adjustments intend to alleviate overcrowding and enhance the tourist experience.

The present daily visitor limit stands at 4,500. However, an upcoming adjustment set forth by the Ministry specifies that during peak tourism season from January 1, April 2-5, June 19-November 2, and December 30-31, this capacity will increase to a maximum of 5,600 per day.
The measures outlined by DDC Cusco hope to streamline access while ensuring adherence to the site's authorized visitor capacity. Authorities are committed to maintaining effective crowd management and improving visitors' overall experience at Machu Picchu.
