A resident of FIFE has successfully completed the Inca Trail to support a charitable cause.
Sandra Thomson, aged 71, undertook the demanding trek to Machu Picchu as part of a team backing the Finding Your Feet organization.
The former executive secretary of Dunfermline Press ascended to 4,215 meters over the course of a four-day, three-night journey.
Her motivation stemmed from learning about Marguerite Henderson, a local woman who lost her legs and hands to sepsis years ago, which inspired Sandra to take on this challenge.
Recently returned from her adventure, Sandra expressed her joy at completing the trek.
"This was by far the toughest challenge I’ve ever faced! With early starts between 3am and 4am, navigating steep and demanding sections of the Inca Trail, and arriving at camp only after dark—exhausted and sore, only to repeat it each day," she recounted.
"However, the breathtaking scenery made it worthwhile. We saw an Andean condor, hummingbirds, numerous llamas and alpacas, and even a few large hairy spiders!"
She celebrated reaching the Sun Gate with views of Machu Picchu and praised her amazing team, highlighting their collective achievement of raising £66,000 for the Finding Your Feet Amputee Charity.
"Thank you so much to everyone who has donated; your generosity is deeply appreciated."
