A new Antarctic expedition program has been announced for the 2027–2028 seasons, with departures aboard the RMS St Helena, a historic vessel that has recently undergone refurbishment. The ship previously served as a Royal Mail Ship for the British overseas territory of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic.

The program has been designed to broaden access to Antarctic travel through a value-oriented approach focused on exploration, education, and direct engagement with the environment. Each voyage will combine Zodiac landings, wildlife encounters, and photography workshops led by professional guides.

What you need to know

The first voyages will operate from Ushuaia, Argentina, featuring a 10-day round-trip itinerary promoted as one of the shortest routes to the Antarctic Peninsula. Departures are scheduled for January 16, 2027, and December 11, 2027. The route includes crossing the Drake Passage and exploring Antarctic Sound and surrounding areas.

  • January departures are priced from US$9,290 per person in twin-share cabins.

  • December departures start from US$8,490 per person.

  • Each journey blends adventure with hands-on learning and discovery-focused experiences.

The program reflects a growing trend in Antarctic travel that seeks to balance accessibility, educational depth, and responsible exploration of one of the world’s most remote regions.
