Ocean Albatros will be christened in Copenhagen

2024-04-11

The second Ulstein X-Bow hulled vessel, known as the Ocean Albatros, is set to be formally named on May 7, 2024, at Nordre Tolbod in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the family-owned company originated. This 169-passenger ship has been operational since May 2023.

Søren Rasmussen, the Founder and Chairman, expressed the company's commitment to crafting unforgettable experiences for guests since 1986. He highlighted the significance of their modern, environmentally conscious ships in offering unique Nordic-inspired expeditions, typically navigating between Antarctica and the Arctic. The upcoming christening in Copenhagen presents an opportunity to celebrate this milestone with loved ones.

Attendees of the ceremony will be able to explore the Ocean Albatros through guided tours, appreciating its sophisticated design and advanced technology. The event will culminate in the traditional champagne christening, marking the ship's official entry into the fleet.

Furthermore, additional spots have become available for expeditions to Antarctica aboard the Ocean Albatros, following the release of a previously held charter sailing. General sales are now open for an 18-day voyage departing on January 4, 2025.

In other news, Hans Lagerweij, the CEO who had been in a sporadic role since July 2023, has departed the expedition company. Lagerweij now serves as the Interim CEO of Positive Polar, a new venture focusing on science-driven expedition cruises. Rasmussen has assumed the CEO duties until a permanent replacement is found.
