The luxury cruise to the Galápagos Islands is limited to 100 trips, at $50k each, and will include renowned scientists, explorers and artists, including trance music contributor Paul Oakenfold.
Paul Oakenfold will become the first DJ to perform live in the Galápagos Islands, confirmed to play a historic set for “Space2Sea Galápagos: Voyage of Discovery,” an ultra exclusive science expedition.
With suites priced at about $50,000 and only 100 available, the seven-day voyage aboard Silver Origin will host a notable lineup of figures, including astrophysicist, author, and Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey host Neil deGrasse Tyson and Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan, a former NASA astronaut and U.S. Navy officer, who is the first American woman to walk in space and the first woman to reach the ocean's deepest point, the Mariana Trench.
Organized by FUTURE of SPACE, "Space2Sea Galápagos: Voyage of Discovery" is taking place November 1-8. The programming builds off the organization's 10-day voyage last year to Antarctica with deGrasse Tyson and William Shatner (legendary Star Trek actor).
The Silver Origin was chosen because of its low environmental footprint, thereby protecting the delicate Galápagos ecosystem using dynamic positioning for its methods, instead of anchors, to prevent damaging the ocean floor.
Organizers are referring to Oakenfold's installation as "the world's most remote dancefloor." The pioneer in trance music will "stage exclusive performances under Galápagos skies" as he performs in the same place where Charles Darwin developed his theory of natural selection, quite a scene for a DJ set.
While making his observations to the Galápagos Islands in 1835, a then 26-year-old Darwin recognized that there are unique variations found among species like finches that had different shaped beaks that allowed him to begin developing theories that became recognizable for his famous explanatory accounts of evolution.
"This seven-day voyage connects the cosmic view of space exploration to the evolutionary experiences in Darwin’s living laboratory, and events provide an opportunity to create a new journey cultivated from science and human experience". According to a press release shared with EDM.com.
