This is the time of year when the red-footed boobies and masked boobies are breeding and nesting. Green sea turtles are also nesting, as are the marine iguanas and land iguanas. Because of the weather conditions, the underwater visibility is also excellent and the water temperatures are the highest at any time in the year. However, the warmer waters do mean fewer nutrients and therefore a slightly less busy and teeming underwater world. The sun can also be very intense so you will need to think about effective sunblock.
Temperatures are similarly high in March and the rainy season reaches its peak in the highlands with an average of two inches of rain. Tortoises are laying eggs in the wild and frigate birds begin nesting. Flightless cormorants, penguins, and flamingos all begin to nest too. Underwater visibility is good and, as in February, and the sun can also be strong.
